I bought all three books at the same time for my 9 and 6 year old son and daughter and they both love the series. The second book actually kept us all wanting to read more and made it hard to put the book down. The Nightmare King is not as fast paced and a bit repetitive. But MB does such an amazing job of presenting horror/adventure themes and ideas in a way that is not frightening to my kids and keeps them very much engaged. We are definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.
My 10 year old son loves these books. If your kid is into books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Trapped in a Video Game they will probably like this series also.
This was a good second book. The kids were independent and taking action. Appropriate for my 10 year old son, we are looking forward to the next book. I have enjoyed the creative characters and species that have appeared in the books. The series is not as doom and gloom as the name would suggest.
My 10 yr. old grandson has read the whole series so far and is loving them all. He said this one is as good as the rest!
Usually getting my 9yo to read is like getting someone to enjoy a root canal. With this book, he wouldn't stop reading!
This whole series is wonderful! There is such a lack of options for young boys who are not into scouts-fi or fantasy books so this was refreshing to find! Many thanks to Mr. Brallier for creating something to peak a young minds interest and creating a passion for literacy!
My kids were so excited when they found out the 3rd book of the series was released, so we bought it as soon as it came out. They've each read it over and over (along with the previous 2 books in the series). They can't get enough. I love seeing them this excited about reading.
