A vast and varied coterie of villains begin to sign up to work with or against the regime. Excellent, but excessively predictable.

If you were missing the villains from the Injustice timeline, weep no more for they have arrived!

Year five continues the high standard of the past four years. A great series is rushing toward its conclusion.

2nd of the last 8 books that i purchased in the Injustice story arc that have had bent covers or pages. The story is fantastic and worth a read. But replacements may be in your future so you may have to wait longer to read. That being said 6 others were in otherwise perfect condition.

I'm a superman fan. Have been for years. And while I hate to see him be a bad guy, it does work. This entire series has been like Elseworlds on crack. Just a ready fun series.

I can’t get enough of this series

Engaging and thought-provoking a different look Superman and Batman. Really fun to read. Makes you want to see how it will all end.

All Good... as expected!

From Booklist

In turbulent 1968, Jessie Stackhouse, an African American freshman, is offered a scholarship to play hockey for Springvale Academy, an exclusive New Hampshire prep school. Jessie views admission to Springvale as his ticket to the Ivy League. Upon arrival, though, he encounters virulent racism, as he is beaten by a gang of town thugs and faces a terrifying fake lynching administered by his teammates. Jessie’s hockey coach is behind many of these cruelties, and despite the efforts of the headmaster, Jessie finds himself pushed nearly to the limit. Once the hockey season starts, Jessie’s talent makes him indispensable to the team, but when the board fires the headmaster, all seems lost. At the end, though, a reporter turns up to write an exposé on the prep school’s racism, and Jessie knows that justice will prevail. Hendrickson’s debut novel paints a gripping account of a courageous young man rising above evil. The well-described hockey action is secondary to the undiluted portrait of racism. Grades 8-11. --Todd Morning

Jessie Stackhouse is a black teen and hockey phenom recruited to a prestigious prep school during the height of the civil rights movement. From the moment Jessie arrives at Springvale Academy, he's accosted with seething hatred from his classmates, teammates, hockey coach and don't get me started on the racist locals. Riveted, I kept wondering how he was going to make this impossible and very often lonely situation work. Thank goodness for Stick, Jessie's quick witted roommate and friend and Frenchie, the one teammate who stands up for Jessie. My heart ached so badly every time Jessie was brutalized and taunted that I wanted him to quit, go home and just be safe. But this smart, amazing young man perseveres against unsurmountable odds and head held high, proves himself a winner--a survivor. I cheered because no one deserved it more! When the final buzzer sounds, Dave Hendrickson's Cracking the Ice will have you shouting GOOOAAAALLLL!

Since the plot and characters have already been described very well by another review I will keep this simple. Historical fiction. I HIGHLY recommend this book. The subject matter which is realistic, provides a great read for guy OR girl teen and above. I am an adult and couldn't wait to pick it up again to see what would happen next. If you want to keep your teens interested in reading (perhaps a good summertime book), buy this for them and then treat yourself to a read.

Absolutely loved this book! Any age will enjoy it and the younger generations will learn and hopefully do not repeat the mistakes we older generations did. Bullying and discrimination needs to stop! David also loved the local flavor of Lynn, Ma where I grew up. I am telling my friends that this should be a mandatory read for their students. Great job'

'Cracking the Ice' is very well written and entertaining----My wife and I read it in one day. It would make a great movie. We have recommended this book to all of our friends with children and grandchildren in the hockey schools here in the Northeast.

This is a great read. It doesn't take long before you're sucked in and can't put the book down. I'm so glad I picked it up to read, and I can't wait for his next book.

A revisit to the perpetrators and survivors of the Rwandan genocide in one particular district. Deeply absorbing and elucidating. You will emerge with great appreciation for human resilience and the thoughtfulness and introspective capacity of individual, ordinary Rwandans.

Jean Hatzfeld has accomplished a difficult and very touching triology on the Rwandan genocide, which reveals the perspectives of both the victims and the killers and the painful experience of living together again. Much recommended to anyone interested in the past and the future of Rwanda.

I loved the book. Yet - it's hard to rate a product like that. All three books by Jean Hatzfeld (this one is the third out of trilogy) are amazing, all three should be read.

This can be very infuriating as you read through if you care about our common humanity and can't stand injustice!

The first reviewer said things very well, so I will leave that as it is. But I live in Rwanda and am married to a Rwandan and I work here among many who were here and others who returned afterward. I find Hatzfield's book refreshing because it is so honest, and honesty about these events is difficult, not because Rwandans aren't truthful but because we all have to live next to one another, come what may. As some survivors point out, it would help them to release all their pent-up feelings, but it would be hard to continue our daily lives if they did so. So for national survival, they sacrifice, even again. Rwanda is truly an astounding story of survival against all odds: not one of the people I know who was here in the two or three years afterward really believed the country would find any way forward. The fact that it has and has even surpassed many of the conditions of its pre-war status and is looking forward to the future is an incredible testimony to Rwandans themselves. The people in this book are witness to that: this is as true a snapshot of rural Rwanda as can be found in English. Life in the city is a bit more complex than Hatzfield paints it, but he knows this particular community very well.

That there is only one other review to date on Amazon indicates a low readership for The Antelope's Strategy. It's true that more pressing current affairs require our attention between Iraq, Afghanistan, the worldwide financial situation...and this doesn't even include the growing drug trade in Mexico nor the uranium enrichment in North Korea. However, the genocide in Rwanda still strikes me as one of the more important historical events in my lifetime as it reveals the continuing need for discourse on how and why ethnicity is manipulated in politics as well as the longterm effects of such politics. In this accessible book which combines direct oral narrative with the author's literary shaping of events, the story post-genocide is told both by Tutsis and Hutus. In 2003, the mostly Tutsi government freed the Hutu prisoners who admitted their crimes in killing Tutsis. The freed Hutus were taught how to behave towards the survivor Tutsis and allowed to return home, to the silent shock of the survivor Tutsis who in turn were urged by the government to behave judiciously and neighborly towards the freed Hutus, even towards those who took part in killing their families and friends. With only a traditional and almost informal court (the gacaca) in which to air grievances and seek out further truths concerning that summer when a possible 75% of the Tutsi population was decimated, both Tutsis and Hutus face an uneasy coexistence but recognize the compromise as the only way for the nation to move forward. In reading the book, I was stunned by the details about the daily existence during that genocide when Tutsis and Hutus engaged in a deadly hunting game with its own perimeters of hunting time and almost safe hours when Tutsis could emerge from the forest or the papaya marshes to forage for food. I had read about the churches where the massacres seemed straight forward. But within the forest and the marshes was an odder game, one with the slimmest chance of survivor for the Tutsis. Of the six thousand fled to Kayumba Forest, only twenty survived the daily ritual of running to evade the hunter Hutus who, armed with machetes, entered the forest each morning, then took a break for lunch, then returned to murder before finishing the day at five. The survivors from the papaya marshes tell a similar story: daily hiding in the water among vegetation during the daytime, then coming out in the evening as the Hutu hunters ate to forage for food. The goal for the Tutsis daily was to survive until mealtime. Here is massacre as a workday with the Hutus considering murders just another part of the job. That the Tutsis and Hutus even manage to get on with life, after all that has happened and the crimes that have been committed, is quite something.

Surprising, comforting and appalling all at once. More personal thoughts by Hatzfeld than in his other books. It answered so many questions from Hatzfeld's first two books on Rwanda. He puts the killers and survivors side-by-side as they now live in their villages and makes the reader really feel what it must be like to be there.

I thought this was fiction. It's not. Interviews with survivors and perpetrators. Not fun.

I purchased this novel by mistake. I'm not the type of woman who likes romantic novels at all, or watch what people call "Chick Flicks". I DO like Mysteries, so maybe that's why I bought "The Wedding Dress". If it was a mistake on my part to buy it, it was a GOOD mistake, because I had a hard time putting the book down! Without giving too much away, the novel is about an "I can do everything on my own, thank you very much" woman who owns a contemporary bridal shop. She also is in the midst of emotional doubt about whether she, herself, should marry a man she only met a couple of months before he proposed (their marriage was set in only 2 additional months). She was pulled toward his large family, something she never had, because her mother died when she was young, and she never knew her father. She finds herself somehow buying an old, beat-up trunk at an estate sale for more money than she could believe. Inside the trunk is a beautiful, timeless wedding gown in perfect condition, although it was said to be 100 years old. Her journey to find the owner of this remarkable dress leads her (Charlotte) to find not only the ones who wore it before, but it also lead her to knowing her own heart and her heritage. It was a sappy, melodramatic book at all, which I was afraid it would be. It had a great mystery and ALOT of wisdom that could be applicable to us all. I would recommend it.

Charlotte Malone decides to take a breather from running her bridal shop one day to take a walk around a local estate sale, not intending to buy anything, just look and take her mind off her stresses. She's surprised to find herself greatly interested in an antique wooden trunk that appears to have it's lock welded shut. A mysterious man in a vibrant purple shirt appears as the auctioneer, somehow coaxing her to bid on the item though she has no use for it. Charlotte ends up winning the trunk, taking it home, and with the help of some friends manages to eventually get it open. Inside, she finds a wedding gown that clearly looks like it's from another era, though she can't quite place which one. Strangely, it also appears to not have any signs of aging, as if it was just completed only yesterday. Charlotte becomes increasingly fascinated with learning the provenance of the gown, her research leading her to the stories of three other women -- Emily from the year 1912, Mary Grace from the year 1939, and Hilary from 1968 -- who all wore this dress on their wedding day. Each woman brings a riveting piece of history to the story of the dress, stories that will come together to explain the dress's pull on Charlotte.I expected a sweet, fluffy story going in but found myself pleasantly surprised to come to the last page and realize I really loved this tale! The different points of history are all fascinating and each character is unique and life-like. There are good-hearted characters to cheer for and wicked people to cut eyes at (figuratively, of course). I can't think of one character here, good or bad, that did not hold my interest til the end! And the mystery of the dress itself -- I had to know how all these stories tied together! There's also the cute couplings to enjoy -- the back and forth struggle between Charlotte and her man (not a bad struggle though -- more of a "man, it'll be great when they come around" kind of tension), even through their rough patches they had nice banter and sweet, honest moments. I think my favorite, though, was Mary Grace and her husband as they were portrayed as the old couple in the retirement home, still looking out for each other. Having known couples like that when I worked in those kinds of homes, it definitely brought some warm-fuzzies to my heart :-)I liked that this story had the blend of sweet, mysterious and heart-tugging without getting over-the-top sappy. These characters just felt like straight-up good people you'd know or meet in your everyday life. That tiniest vein of magical realism -- with the mystery man in purple -- was a pretty cool touch to keep the pages turning as well!

I read "The Wedding Dress" first and then purchased the "The Wedding Shop" and enjoyed both books for what they are, a fictional love story with religious overtones. This was not, to me, a preachy religious book. Yes, as I said there were references of God and religious beliefs thrown in here and there, but it was not saturated through out the book. I usually read haunted house mysteries and they are less believable than the religious notations that others complained about in this book. I am not a religious person, but I believe in God. This book was a very good read and change of pace for me....I had no problem reading through the religious sentences any more than I had no problem reading about spirits and ghosts in my haunted house books. If you did not finish this book because of the brief religious parts than you missed out on a good story. I also thought it was well written and moved along at a good pace. The ending was well thought out and completed all the story lines in the book. I will continue to purchase other books by this author.

According to the information provided by Amazon, this book was published in 2012. However, according to my content information I purchased it in June 2011. How do you explain that? Unfortunately, I just finished reading it.I am a Christian and a believer in the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers and unbelievers alike. I can't remember where or how I learned of this book but by the time I got around to reading it I had no idea what to expect. I have read a large number of "romance novels" that include foul language, sex, sex, and more sex. I was more or less expecting the same with this book. Boy was I wrong.I'm not surprised that readers who are not committed to the Lord and His work in the lives of individuals found it too "Christian" for their tastes. I really enjoyed it. It is a romance novel without any overt sex (just a few hints of what a man wants to do to his fiance') and it has mystery surrounding the title theme, the wedding dress. It is a good, clean, enjoyable story ranging from 1912 to the present day. The characters are believable and their situations plausible.I recommend this book, even for those young people who enjoyed the Twilight series (I enjoyed those books too and I am 75 years old).
