How do you write something new and fresh about a topic that has been analyzed down to its toenails? You have to really “get it” and Naoh Rasheta clearly does. Written in an inspired Q&A format, this book really is “No-Nonsense,” which, of course, to the Buddhist means, “It makes all the sense in the world.”I am a proud-to-be-an-American Buddhist philosopher who lived in China for almost a decade. Which means, essentially, that I study the teachings of the Buddha, including the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path. I don’t, however, meditate, although I do contemplate. And there is a difference. The point is that whatever you’ve heard about Buddhism is probably both right and wrong. The teachings of the Buddha are so straightforward (notice I didn’t say simple) as to be very difficult to communicate. And, as such, they can take many forms, as evidenced by the large number of Buddhist sects in existence today.Noah Rasheta, however, does a better job than anyone else I’ve read at pulling it all together. And I perceive he is motivated to do so both because he cares and he appreciates that this lack of discrete definability is precisely what many sufferers in the West need, but which prevents them from finding relief. The language of Buddhism can be difficult, in part, because there are so many exotic terms used in its ancient teachings. But these terms are not exotic so much as they are merely unfamiliar and I suggest you largely ignore them. And Mr. Rasheta will help. He doesn’t ignore them but he does marginalize their importance for native English speakers.I like to explain how by using the example of an old tree sitting high up in a mountainous meadow. The tree is real. I can touch it. I can smell it. I can hear the rustle of its leaves. I could even cut it down if I wanted. I can’t, however, “know” the tree. The tree is a product of the things within itself but it is also the product of the climate, the altitude, the soil, the trees and vegetation around it, and an infinite variety of other variables that contribute to defining that tree, and all of which are constantly changing. I can only know that everything is interconnected; to know the tree is impossible, but the tree is real.Buddhists talk a lot about suffering. And there is plenty of suffering in the world today. But like the tree, we cannot truly know suffering unless we embrace the arrogance that would allow us to think we can truly know it. We all suffer but there is no reason to truly embrace it. And as soon as you don’t, whether it’s in meditation or reading a very good book like this one, you can hold that suffering at a distance. And in its isolation it will dissipate.Buy this book, read it through, and put it on your shelf to read it again. The writing is simple and clear and full of simple wisdom that you can reach out and touch.

Fantastic Book. As a neurologist, I have spent the past three years studying and understanding many mindfulness and acceptance techniques that have their foundation in Buddhism and have been clinically proven to have pervasive health benefits. Principles of Secular Buddhism can be applied by anyone, regardless of religious belief.

Originally, I downloaded a sample of the book. I didn't get that much out of the sample. After completing the sample there was some information about a podcast by the author. I decided to give it a listen while working around the house. The style of the podcast was very easy to listen to. I ended up listening to several. After that, I purchased his book. Many of the items in this book were covered in episodes of the podcasts. My only regret is that it was such an easy read, it over too soon. I will continue to listen to Noah Rasheta's podcasts and certainly consider purchasing other books recommended by him.

This book is a MUST read for anyone even remotely interested in learning about the core concepts of Buddhism. It is also a useful reference book for any new practioner of the Buddhist path, to help brush up on their knowledge, or even for use as an easy access source to draw upon and share with others interested in learning. The question and answer format that Noah uses, makes it extremely easy to bookmark and find any answers you are looking for expediently, without having to dig deep through various texts and complicated wording. He uses a clear cut, straight forward approach in his explanations, utilizing very easy to understand, real world examples and analogies that make learning about Buddhism an enjoyable experience. This book is truly capable of inspiring one to delve further and learn more. Excellent follow up resource or even pre-read to his first book, which we also highly recommend.

As a new interest into Buddhism this was the first book I purchased to educate my self and answer most of the questions I had. I read the entire book in one setting while. This was an amazing resource for people looking into becoming Buddhist

Wish I'd had this book a long time ago. I've read various books like Siddhartha, Old Path White Clouds, etc. which I enjoyed but I got bogged down in the unfamiliar words and various "schools" of Buddhism. (My Western mind asks "which is the best?") The level of detail in this book is perfect for the beginner and for the still-confused non-beginner, and it answers the questions that pop into my mind about the language as well as a bit about why there are different "schools" and some of the differences.

Very brief summary that is especially good for those with little knowledge of Buddha and his ideasUsing his techniques helpful for everyone

My son received this hand-puppet board book as a gift for his first birthday. It is absolutely adorable. Each puppet is different and reflects the animals in the "Old MacDonald" song. The material is sturdy and the puppets are nicely stitched. My hand and fingers fit comfortably with room to spare for those who have larger hands. My son has enjoyed watching me move the puppets around and going through the book while singing the song. My only complaint about the product is that the book is rather thin. I though it was going to be a fabric book. I do not leave my son's board books out for him to go through whenever he wants because he chews pieces off and chokes on them. I thought that with this being mostly fabric and the book having Velcro that I would be able to allow him to play with it whenever. However, the book is so flimsy that it could probably easily be torn off of the fabric and get into my son's mouth. So until he's a little older and no longer trying to eat books, I'll definitely need to supervise him with this toy.

Awesome, saw it at Facebook a girl was singing it to her dad as he was video tape her and posted it on Facebook.

We love this hand puppet! We purchased this to put in our 16 month old son's Easter basket. We played with it most of the morning. He loved us singing the song and making each animal move. The glove is pretty big and easily fit on my hand (I'm 5 foot 11 mom with somewhat chubby hands) I love that the eyes are sewn on and there are no beads or buttons for little ones to choke on. It seems well made and I hope it will last a long time!

I have now purchased three of these books: one for my granddaughter, and two to give to friends for their little ones. My granddaughter has loved this book with the finger puppets since she was about 6 months old. She is 14 months old now and continues to bring this to me to sing the Old MacDonald song to her (she's not all that interested in the cardboard book) while I wiggle the fingers and make the animal sounds. She will pick it up and mimic the singing -- so cute!

I bought this a year and a half ago when our twins were 7 months old. They loved it then and still love it! Now they bring it over to me and we sing together, and they choose which animal we say. Sometimes it's "duck" over and over, but they have so much fun!It did end up getting thrown into the tub about a year ago, so the book is warped, but other than that it's in good shape!I love it so much, I bought it for my friends' children too!

Our package arrived today and we are really looking forward to it, however, we were a bit disappointed in the quality of this book. For example the stiching of the dog's nose is only on the right side of his face. The corners of the book stuck together so when we turned the pages we removed some of each page leaving white dots on the corners. I agree with another reviewer, you might be better off buying finger puppets and singing the song your self.

I found the book attached lacking and unnecessary. I would just recommend buying actual finger or hand puppets you could do more. I should say that my child loves the finger puppets though.

I had bought an identical book years ago for my grandchildren who enjoyed it very much & I never thought I'd find another. Then I found this on Amazon while looking for a puppet loving little girls first birthday present. Little G just loved it! (Actually, not sure who enjoyed them more - the birthday girl or her parents LOL!)Highly recommend this for lots of great play time with your little one.

Wow a complete negative approach to writing dedicated to well I guess for lack of a better word"losers". I think the writer could explain this in their words better than I can. This is what I like to refer to in books as the big break down.Page 1. "All business owners, regard regardless of their current level of success or lack of success are stuck-either you are growing or dying".In the sentence above the author takes the low road by assuming that just because your still trying to learn that your somehow stuck. It is also a very poorly constructed sentence because he says your stuck even if your growing."Yet you feel like the proverbial hamster on the wheel. Bla Bla Bla barely "keeping your head above the water"....bla bla bla "You spent serious money on ads that don't work." Do these first page quotes inspire you to run out and get inspired. Here I thought I was a multi millionaire trying to continue my education. On page 117 he sums up his approach to marketing and (I guess) writing books as well. "Don't overeducated - You want to enform and impress, but do not tell everything you know. Tell people what to do but not how to do it Let them take the next step to get the exact how-tos."That is very much the book in a nutshell. Bunch of very general statements. I assume (like the author does) that these 5 star reviews are part of a group of authors that say nice things about each other's works or friends. I would like to make an irresistible offer, return the money I paid for this book and I will remove my review. What a bunch of junk!

I'm currently on a tear of reading marketing books lately and decided to check this one out. I was disappointed that most of the book is the author pontificating on how effective his system works without actually revealing anything about what exactly his system is. When he finally does let us in on his little secret it's just a watered down version of what digital marketers are already preaching and have been for years.

And if you are one of my or my clients' competitors, please don't buy this book.Yes, that's an old, corny, over-used cliché. But here's the thing about clichés...they're based on truths. Here's the thing. I am also an Amazon best-selling author, and for over 40 years I have steadfastly studied and practiced marketing and branding. I've read a few thousand books, listened to hundreds speakers and consultants, and become friends with many of the smartest marketers in the B2B community, including Dan Kennedy.Dan is my #1 go-to guy for continued, practical, and just darn great ideas anybody business person can use. He is probably the smartest marketer in the world today. "Magnetic Marketing" is, IMNSHO, his most important contribution to the art and science of marketing. So, yes, I recommend this book.

I remember my first big Dan Kennedy event in 2006 and being literally blown away. I asked a friend where do I begin, what product should I purchase first? The answer he gave me was direct and clear... Magnetic Marketing. It changed my life. In his new book, Dan covers all the bases and provides "take it to the bank" advice on what it really means to develop a marketing system that continuously and consistently delivers new clients, new patients or new customers for any business. My library is now full of the books and many of the courses offered by No BS Inner Circle.

Years ago, long before many of the leading contemporary marketing gurus advocated 'pull persuasion content marketing' over 'push selling', Dan Kennedy pioneered the idea of Magnetic Marketing. The essence of the Magnetic Marketing idea is that your success comes from creating an attraction force - ie 'the magnet' - that motivates prospects to seeks you out. So rather than chasing prospective customers, Magnetic Marketing practioners entice prospective customers to seek them out. The info product DK developed around this idea has been amongst the most successful in terms of units and $$$ of revenue plus impact on purchasers' business performance. Now, in his latest book, he reveals the essence of this powerful marketing system. If you have not yet gasped the essence this concept, this book may be life-changing. If you are already an experienced Magnetic Marketing practitioner, DK's newest book is a timely refresher and update of one of the most primary marketing concepts.

I heard about Dan Kennedy a few years ago, and listen to a couple of videos of him. But it wasn't until I truly devoure myslef in his content that i've realised how simple and brilliant his approch to sales and marketing is. I'm sorry I didn't done it earlier. This book is the esence of everything i've consumed from Dan and GKIC in the last few years. Do your self a favor and get this book now. You'll thank yourself (and Dan) when you do.

Dan Kennedy always delivers and never fails to tell it as it is when it comes to getting practical yet BIG Real life- Results for small businesses.I've already have a plan mapped out thanks to his content and am looking forward to both implementing my time forward capturing some more of his book material and my small business adventure

This book lays out a system that brings people to you. I loved how it was organized and the insights I got on almost every page.

This book is a very good mix of writing of many different authors all detailing on the idea of what is the meaning of Modern, Western and Civilized. More specifically, a number of the essay within the book are about things such as the enlightenment, the french revolution, how the state should be, etc. Some of the essays are not easy reads, but that doesn't make it any less important too read in the first place. All in all, if you are studying the enlightenment and/or taking a 'Modern Western Civilization' class or just interested, this is a good book to read for getting the ideas of how people during those time periods saw things.

The read and print is bad. Then the book itself fell apart because the binding came loose.

It wasn't as enticing as I had expected but it is never the less worth the read in order to grasp the different dynamics that lead to nationalist sentiments

Shortly after I got this book and started to read it, great clumps of pages started falling out of the binding. It was like the hair of a chemotherapy patient. The readings selected for inclusion in this book are good, but you wont' be able to hold onto them long. They will disintegrate in your very hands.

If you're intrigued by extreme teleworking, but have your doubts, Remote is the place to address them. Not a day goes by that I don't think about, talk about, and actually apply the insights in this game-changing book."--Susan Cain, New York Times bestselling author of Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking "What you'll find in Remote is profound advice from guys who've succeeded in the virtual workforce arena.  This is a manifesto for discarding stifling location- and time-based organizational habits in favor of best work practices for our brave new virtual and global world. If your organization entrusts you with the responsibility to get things done, this is a must-read.”--David Allen, internationally best-selling author of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity “Remote is the way I work and live.  Now I know why.  If you work in an office, you need to read this remarkable book, and change your life.”--Richard Florida, author of the national bestseller The Rise of the Creative Class: And How It’s Transforming Work, Leisure, Community and Everyday Life “In the near future, everyone will work remotely, including those sitting across from you. I've just finished Remote - Office Not Required, a book by 37Signals founders Jason Fried and David Heinemeier Hansson (also creator of the web framework, Ruby on Rails). Jason and David run the Basecamp project with great success using a small army of remote workers. downloadThis success has made them prophets who declare the benefits of remote work to companies who do not see its value, or fear it altogether. As a remote worker myself, who spends three days a week working from home, and two days in the office an hour and a half away in Cleveland, Ohio, I wasn't sure if Remote would offer any nuggets about remote work that I didn't already know and agree with.I was only partly right.Jason and David's analysis of remote work gave me a greater appreciation for the paradigm and also for those companies that have embraced the remote workplace ideology, such as where I work in Cleveland. Here are five of my favorites.1. Eliminating the Commute - Sure, I am acutely aware that removing a commute is a huge benefit to remote work, but for someone like me, who is smack dab in the middle of nowhere between job hubs like Cleveland, Columbus, and Pittsburgh, Remote reminded me of how awesome the ability to mitigate such a commute really is. Without the advent of remote work, an hour and a half drive back and forth every day for five days a week would have seemed daunting (even for someone like me who loves driving). But that drive two days a week is just right, enabling me to enjoy other benefits of working from home, along with the benefits of working in a bigger city a couple times a week, especially lunch at great restaurants with my co-workers :)2. Health - So I mentioned I love eating at restaurants. Food is definitely a passion of mine. But if I worked every day in a restaurant hub like Cleveland, my belt would be snapping off in a few weeks! Plus, the long commute would not offer me much time to exercise in the morning or evening during a work day. But since I work from home three days a week, after work, I can trade in what would be a long ride home in for a run (at least in the summer, winters in NE Ohio are awful!). That way I have more room to eat on the days I'm in Cleveland!3. Time Flexibility - Remote work gives you the ability to get your average forty hours a week in any time during the workweek. My wife and I just had a baby, so that time flexibility really pays off when you are juggling work with visits to the midwife or pediatrician.4. Productivity Analysis - When you are working remotely, you must be judged primarily on your ability to produce, not just where you are sitting from nine to five. It's extra motivating to know that your project success rate is how your company will perceive your value to them. It forces you to manage your time appropriately to get the job done!5. The Ability to Hire Talent Anywhere - For years, companies have been restricted to offering employment exclusively to home town boys and girls, or try to woo outside talent into the home office city. If the talent didn't want to move, the company was out of luck. Now, with remote work options, great people can be hired from all over the world! And an added benefit is that if a current employee needs to move out of the home office city for whatever reason, the ability to work remotely could may keep them with the company, saving that company time and money in finding a replacement.Remote - Office Not Required is a book with a clear mission - to convince companies that currently do not offer remote options, or are skeptical of remote work, to embrace dramatic shifts in their thinking. It is also a rallying cry for those workers who are trying to convince their current employer to offer remote work options. But for people like me, who are currently enjoying those benefits already, it is valuable reminder to appreciate what you already have, the company leadership that makes that remote work possible!

I'm a big fan of the SvN blog and Rework and Getting Real, so it's safe to say I was excited about Remote when I heard about it earlier this year. Coming from a global professional services firm, we've adopted a lot of workplace flexibility measures to fight back on the expenses associated with office space and our high-turnover/stress environment. I share the authors belief that going remote is the way of the future and this book highlights the reasons for going remote, the arguments against, and methods for optimizing the value of a remote culture.Since I work in IT, I understand the obvious connection between the authors and the software business. I think they did a fine job showing why remote working isn't just for IT and why there are benefits across industries. One of the few shortcomings of Rework was that I thought it was a little too IT-centric; some of the arguments presented there just wouldn't fit well in non-IT, traditional (read: old-fashioned) businesses. Remote does a good job explaining why some of these more traditional old-fashioned businesses can benefit from going remote. I especially liked the sections about hiring and retaining the best employees. Everyone can relate to this and it has helpful that they went into detail to explain exactly how they do it at 37 Signals (since at this point they are pretty good at it). It's a short, enjoyable read. It leaves the reader with a sense of what work could be like if you're courageous enough to think outside the norm and challenge conventions as to what work is supposed to be (and what it can be). I'd argue that almost any business owner or decision maker could benefit from this book, even if for just one little bit of information that makes you follow-up with one of their sourced documents. I know that finishing this book is just the beginning for me to rethink how remote work arrangements can be optimized.
