Thanks for writing a book that exposes hard to tackle subject matter. It was a captivating read that I could not put down. Honest and important to add to the conversation on women’s rights and the pursuit of happiness. As an atheist, this was a wonderful insight into the trauma that religion puts on people.

This book was the most enlightening piece of literature I have ever delved into. She goes where not many people feel comfortable but inexplicably agree and relate to. Her words have truly changed my life and I look forward to further literature from her in the future.

I’ve just finished reading “Status Quon't: A Woman's Perspective On How Christianity Was Never About God" by Katilyn Pulcher. I’m a fan of thoughtful, well-researched books about religion and atheism. Unfortunately, this book is not that.Pulcher spends much of the book discussing her personal exposure to religion, specifically being raised in a Baptist family. Her story of being brought up Baptist, of being taught to fear death at a young age, and being made to feel guilty and deserving of punishment, even as a small child, is interesting. I’m sure her story resonates with many Christians.However, the book is lacking in research and scholarship. Early in the book she states, "Clearly our brains haven’t completely evolved because we are still fighting religious wars today, and some humans are running each other over with their cars." Uh-oh. That sounds as if she knows very little about evolution. Well, maybe that was just a throw-off line trying to make a point. Maybe she is indeed well-verse in science.Except, later in the book, she writes, "When a person calls the fire department because his house is on fire, the firefighters show up and put it out with water. Mother Earth is doing the exact same thing; she’s heating up, so much so that wildfires are happening in some areas, and she’s melting her ice caps to put out the flames." Huh? Okay, I get it, this is not a science book.Pulcher spends much of the book discussing how religion and society work to give women second-class status. I agree with her there, and she explores her views with some good examples and anecdotes.But, I got the strong impression, however, that she believes that the “author” of the Bible deliberately crafted the book to specifically oppress women. That’s an interesting thought, but she provides no research or evidence of her views. Pulcher does not even mention that what we know as the Bible was composed, retold, and written over the span of centuries by a great many unknown authors. It would take a lot of evidence to convince me that a deliberate conspiracy was at play during the construction of the Bible.This book feels more like just some idle musings than a book I’m going to learn anything from. There are a lot of amazing and well-researched books about atheism and religion out there. Go find a few.

I just finished this book and consider it a must read for anyone studying comparative religion, anyone who is wondering how the #metoo and #timesup movements mesh with religion, and, even most importantly, how religion and its teachings affects the most vulnerable among us - our children. This book describes the author’s eye-opening journey from her Baptist upbringing to the become the strong, independent, and conclusionist atheist she is today. I can only hope you are as enthralled by her story as I was. As a man, some of it was wholly educational as she shares with brutal candor her experiences. I cannot claim to fully understand what she’s been through, but it is enlightening to hear and learn from her story.

This is a timely read given the increased media awareness surrounding the #metoo movement. This book addresses religion's role from the perspective of a woman who grew up in the Baptist faith. She discusses many of the historical hypocrisies of Christianity's treatment of women that have been pointed out other places, so I found the book was most interesting when she told her personal story of how her religious upbringing negatively impacted her. I think anyone who has gone through a similar experience would find her story insightful and helpful for their own healing.

Study of no single book will get you a pass on the 1Z0-062 Oracle Database 12c Certified Associate exam - you will have to spend many dozens of hours with the Oracle technical documentation. I have identified and used nineteen Oracle 11g manuals that had content relevant to the exam. But if you want a book that will help you study this is the one I recommend.I have an online version of this book available at work through my employer but as I want to step up my study for Oracle exam 1Z0-062 I ordered the paperback edition to read when not at work. Had not Mr. Watson's skillful technical writing and mastery of the subject been excellent in most respects I would not have bothered to order the paper edition. I have compared the exam topics and the book's contents and everything is reasonably covered. Mr. Watson's treatment of the topics is good, sufficiently detailed and understandable. In most chapters I found the descriptions and explanations to be exemplary technical writing. Each chapter presents a coherent treatment of its subject. In short, this book is excellent in most respects -- it is one of the best books on Oracle I have ever seen or used. Now that I have read all the chapters I could find no significant mistakes which are often the bane of such books.The technical editor at Oracle Press likely also deserves some credit for this excellent book. The Total Tester practice exam bundled with the book has fairly good questions and answers to test your knowledge.Even though this book has my five-star recommendation it should be used as an introduction and not a substitute for study of the Oracle technical manuals. I have passed earlier OCA's by reading the Oracle manuals alone but Mr. Watson's book is a handy one-stop reference for exam prep. So if you are going to buy one book to prepare for the 1Z0-062 exam this is the one you should get. But absolutely do not neglect reading and consulting the Oracle 12c technical documentation available at the Oracle website and, perhaps needless to add, all relevant hands-on experience as a dba will help you imprint that knowledge. In that respect the hands-on-exercises in the chapters are useful.Addendum (Feb 2015): After reading every chapter in this book and reviewing the Self-Test questions at the end of each chapter I believe there are some minor errors here and there. For example, in the Oracle on-line documentation it is stated "Be aware that RESOURCE no longer provides the UNLIMITED TABLESPACE system privilege." Therefore Chapter 8, Self-Test Question 2 has only a partially correct answer. Note that in the actual Oracle exam 1Z0-062 there is no partial credit for partially correct answers. Likewise there are some other Self-Test questions and answers in other chapters that are similarly muddled or incorrect. From my brief survey of the blogosphere apparently a number of DBAs are not aware of this specific change in 12c. Still I consider this one of the best Oracle exam prep books I have used.

This is good but I did have to use material from other sources to pass the exam.

This book is a must have for anyone prepping for the 12c Install and Amin Exam. It is the most comprehensive book so far and covers all topics in the exam. For production environment however, you will need to supplement it with other 12c Admin books.

It is a great book, very logically structured, but some of the new chapters (comparing to the previous edition) appear to have been written in a hurry, and after taking the 062 exam I can say that about 25% of the exam questions weren't covered at all in this book. So only use it as a support, don't rely on it for your exam success, or you really risk failing.

Read just one of his books and your hooked. There is just no reading experience that compares to being immersed in one of Charles Martin's books. This is my fourth and I already have another of his books stored in my kindle. It's the only way to move past the separation anxiety that overtakes me when I finish and must part with his beloved characters. Sharing my love for this author and his unforgettable works has blessed me doubly. My friends and I have our own Charles Martin fan club. What a soul, heart, mind and talent this man possesses! His books allow us to strengthen our faith and gain so much knowledge about whatever theme is the foundation of his novel. He's the best of the best for me.

This is a heart warming and heart wrenching story about a gifted surgeon who leaves his practice of medicine and takes on another identity in order to hide. He carries lots of guilt but when he develops a relationship with a little girl who is in need of a heart transplant ,he has to face his demons and make life changing decisions. The decisions that he makes affects many people who he loves.The story itself is very good. I had a hard time putting this down. The only part of this book that was a bit overwhelming was all the .medical terms and information about the heart and heart transplants. However, that being said I did learn a lot about heart transplants.

After reading this book, I reflected on many things that were brought out in the story. I loved the story of Emma and Reese's relationship, how it developed and grew. Who couldn't love Annie and picture her shouting "lemonade!" in her yellow dress. There were so many strong, well woven together characters such as Cindy, Charlie, Termite, Sal, Royer, etc. that you really got to know and were so integral in the story in their connection to Reese. Between the descriptions given of Emma and Annie's heart problems, the reader could become very familiar with treatment of heart problems and detailed info about heart transplants. The title, When Crickets Cry, is a phrase from the book used by Annie and I love it being the title. The book has a great message of strength, commitment and love / caring for others. It is one I will not soon forget and will highly recommend to others.

Charles Martin has not disappointed me in any of his books. I just finished his latest book Long Way Gone. Yes I will write a review after I re-read it again next. I own many of his books on my kindle. I spent my weekend with When Crickets Cry. I love how he writes and have read all his books. Mr Martin...you are a joy to read. There is pain and flawed humanity amidst doubt, fear and above all love. I read a few of the reviews for this book. Some were disappointed. You cannot be everything for everyone. That's okay by me. Your writing makes me think, laugh ,cry and believe. You are indeed worthy of our time as a writer. For the record.....a surgeon is assisted in his sterile gown first followed by sterile gloves. Thank you for the good you're doing as a writer and a Christian. God bless you

I love this book...I am always amazed at how well Mr. Martin develops his characters and I feel like I personally know them or would like to get to know them better!He gives such attention to detail whether he is talking about hearts, guitars or boats! I come away with knowledge that I didn't know I was even interested in.This was not the first of his books that I have read but thus far, my favorite. He weaves God and His greatness into his stories in a way that is not sappy or preachy. It's just life!Thank you Mr. Martin for another great read!
