This book is one of the best purchases I have ever made. It is amazing and very informative. Highly recommend it. It gave me the historical perception and made me aware of how long we have been deceived.

all around excellent transaction and product. thank you for your prompt delivery service and I love love the back, loaded with great information, sad that we are still being offered poison by our government, that was banned long ago

Magnificent Book.So sad It was removed from the public libraries back in the 40's.The knowledge is invaluable.

Probably no other commodity has been responsible for so much downright and expensive lying by the respectable advertising agencies as toothpaste has. Despite all claims to the contrary, no toothpaste will keep your teeth from decaying, even if you use it ten times a day; no toothpaste that is safe for daily use will make your teeth white in one day, three days, or a thousand days; no toothpaste will prevent or cure pyorrhea or any other disease condition of the gums or mouth; no toothpaste will correct, except during an insignificant interval immediately following its use, acid condition of the mouth; no toothpaste will destroy enough mouth organisms to make any difference in anyone's health or well-being.Such wonderful prose and, had it been written last week, would have been spot on. Fact is, the words were written in 1933 by the authors of this wonderful book and it seems not much has changed, except, of course, that now big pharma profits are much higher, fear mongering and selling solutions to those fears, even if they don't work. The drugs and ointments have changed, but the theory is still alive and well. I've wasted my time on this planet; should have been a pharmaceutical representative.Highly recommended... - lc

For its age it came in really great shape and an really glad to have it part of my collection!

This book was hugely popular when it came out, and so should still be read and considered at least for historical purposes. Most of the scares raised here are extremely dated (the authors are extremely concerned about bran in cereal, for example). This provides a good perspective on modern-day health scare books - it's easier to see the gaps in evidence and logic in these old claims, which can help modern readers detect many of the same suspect rhetorical maneuvers in a lot of the fear mongering books published today.

Some of the stories told in this book (in flamboyant language, no less) are absolutely terrifying, and I wonder what they would think of today's preservative-laden foods and items made from products which don't exist in nature.I wonder what people will think of modern technology in 70 years.

It is amazing the history one can learn about how the science of forensics has developed. Most of us tend to think it is a modern development. Actually, the great Sherlock Holmes was very adept at using this new science to prove his cases. Through the years, many law enforcement and scientific types have contributed to the further knowledge used today to both free the innocent and convict the guilty.

Review

Eric Wiberg “…builds a character both attractive and intriguing to the reader. I ended genuinely curious about what might come next, and confident that I was in the hands of an expert story-teller.” William F. Buckley Jr. “I believe this will be a great, great book! I enjoyed the whole thing, and I got some pretty good laughs too!” John Rosseland, Risk Manager, Hamburg-Süd “…This book always looked far above not only all other Boston College manuscripts by others that I have seen - over which it towers - but even some other published works about seamen that I have read. …I think you have achieved a consistent flow of readable adventure. As your characters seem to have taken on more flesh, I think they give the proper balance to all the rich technical details.” Prof. Leonard Casper, Boston College “You skillfully move the story along. This is great. I get a sense of journey and moving forward with every page. …You have a great writing voice – very gentlemanly. I can absolutely imagine sitting down with you in a cozy library, sipping cognac, and listening to these stories. Establishing a writing voice is really critical, and I am impressed by your clear, personal sound.” Rachel Middagh, Editor, Shanghai “You have escaped from pitfall #1, making yourself the hero; you are a commendably modest narrator.” David Northrup, author of eight books, past president of the World History Association. “Your work is quite impressive and excellent.” Gaylord Kelshall, author of The U-Boat War in the Caribbean “You have produced an excellent historical combination of these events which have not been detailed in publications. Have your work circulated among history buffs of which there are millions on our Globe. I wish you luck and success.”  Herbert A. Werner, author of Iron Coffins

This memoir chronicles a boy acting on an ambitious dream in transition to manhood. It is a captivating read & blends a fascinating cross-cultural travel itinerary, eclectic cast of characters, the human vulnerability of fighting demons at a tender age & an alarming dose of humor.Highly recommend!

I recently had a chance business meeting with Eric Wiberg. I could sense that he had a story to tell and indeed he did."Round the World in the Wrong Season" is a 'stream of consciousness' narrative - loose in editing, long in substance. Jack Kerouac taped together hundreds of pages of paper, imbibed enough drugs to keep him awake for several days, and sat down to memorialize the Beat Generation, in "On The Road." In a sense, Eric's book does something similar for his generation. At first the reader is reluctant to have any sympathy for the young man from a yacht-racing Bahamian family with a Greenwich, CT girlfriend. Then - as his journey around the world starts - you realize that what you had thought were his advantages, were really demons that the he was battling as he sought his transition to manhood. Eric knew from the first time he cast off the lines on "Stornoway" that his feelings for his college sweatheart, Margaret, were not going to survive the voyage. He could sense that when he returned to the Bahamas, his relationship with his family would be different. So began his right of passage under the guardianship of "Stornaway"'s mercurial owner Chris Treahy, who would hide that fact that he was terminally ill until near the end of the voyage. There is no vanity in this story. Appropriately, there is self-deprecating humor. Late in the book, Eric thanks the reader for their patience, citing "the conference of...two gripping fevers (of youth)- passion and ignorance." There is no need to apologize. As George Bernard Shaw said - "Youth is wasted on the young."
