Great book! Doesn't tell all but tells stuff that the others don't. Its a must have for the person who wants to know everything about the TH400 and supplement their 400 library. One thing that really stands out is the quality of the illustrations and the way the book is laid out, fantastic. Very easy to understand a real eye opener. I hope they come out with a second edition with more detail. Highly recommend! Great gift for the beginner.

Information contained is, somewhat, superficial despite the good quality pictures. Detailed explanation is not there and, strangely, if provides no fastener torque specs except in 2 instances. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR A NOVICE MECHANIC.

A must for the home mechanic looking at building or rebuilding any GM turbo 400 transmission. It really makes the process so much easier to understand and the author makes the process very achievable by the novice mechanic.

Built the motor in my 89 Suburban then blew my transmission. Made the job go from like trying to land a falling Boeing to riding a Big Wheel. Lots of very high quality pictures and very detailed. Recommend it to anybody, even if you never plan on tearin' into a TH400.

Decent book, but missing some crucial data.-bearing tolerance-end play specs-torque specs etc.Would benefit from a table in back of book with all tolerances and specs as well as on applicable page.I was able to download for free a manual by ATSG that provided all info needed, but in black and white. I guess with this book you are paying for the nice color photos.

This is a good rebuild book, but if you are rebuilding for the first time, this is only half of the books you should get. You should also get the ATSG book. The ATSG book has better text and drawings, the ruggles book has better pictures.

This book will be a very good tool for when I do my th400 transmission.

Very complete book, It has tons of information and money saving tips for building tools you need. I recommend this book.

The Elven is probably my favorite book of all time since it had excellent character development and was its own story wrapped into a nice, 800 page package (not to mention the beautiful descriptions and the story itself). Elven Winter is also quite enjoyable, but once you get about halfway through it's quite obviously not a standalone novel.Hennen has actually published 4 (4 on Amazon, 7 listed on Wikipedia) books in The Elven series, but only the first two have been translated to English, with the others only being in German (the "Die Elfen Saga" Die Elfen: Roman (Die Elfen-Saga 1) (German Edition)). Since it took about 2.5 years for the editors/translators to kick out Elven Winter after The Elven, I wouldn't necessarily keep your hopes up for getting the next two (Elven Light, and Elven Queen) or five (Elven Light, Elven Song, Elven Queen, Elven Worlds, and Elven Power) installments anytime soon .All that being said, Elven Winter is still a must read for fantasy lovers. This story is completely different from the Elven as it does not focus on Mandred, Farodin, or Nuramon, but instead on the minor characters and expands on them quite nicely. If it's been awhile since you read The Elven, I would HIGHLY recommend re-reading it before diving into Elven Winter though. I didn't and immediately regrettd it as I found myself tyring to remember back two years ago to figure out where it places in the vast timeline of The Elven.So in the end, of course I'm going to recommend reading Elven Winter! But do realize that this book does end abruptly, and when I say that, I mean like a guillotine. No gradual slowdown, no hint of a mini-resolution. Just... BAM... and then you're stuck like the rest of us waiting for the next book to be translated, which will be who-knows-how-long.

I think it's important to note that while this is billed as "Saga of the Elven Book 2," it's not really a sequel to the first book. It's more of what Robert Jordan would have called an "outrigger novel," or perhaps a "companion novel" is a better way to put it. The first book focused on three primary characters and their saga. This book is set simultaneously with some events in the first volume but involves characters who were more on the periphery in the first book. This is a way to explore more of the world of the Elven and to get to know characters who weren't explored in the original story. If you've read the first book, you might expect this volume to pick up with one of the characters who was sort of "left behind" in the ending (I'm deliberately being vague there to avoid spoilers). If that's what you're expecting, you may be disappointed. I'd kind of like to know what happens to that character as well, but you won't find anything about that here.I enjoyed this book, but I felt the first volume was stronger and more interesting. Also, as others have noted, this ends really abruptly and the next book is not yet translated into English. If that bothers you, you might want to wait a few years to read this one, but I certainly recommend going ahead and reading the original novel if you haven't already done so. This book is largely an independent story, so you can read the first book without worrying that you'll miss something essential if you don't then move on to this one.

The first book in this series, The Elven, began slowly and laboriously. Not this one. It is packed with action from beginning to end. My only complaint is the very abrupt ending, so abrupt that it seems you are missing the end pages of the book. Editors, what were you thinking! OK Bernhard.....the world is waiting for Book 3!

This book has so much better reviews than The Elven but I found it difficult to get into. Admittedly that could be because I tried reading it right after The Elven and it is not a continuation. I may return later and edit my review, who knows.Most disappointing is that after seemingly taking forever, the plot ends when it's finally about to start. A number of reviews of The Elven complained that the Saga was too long - those people might like this. I don't care much for having to hunt down the rest of this story now - I prefer the Saga style to the multi-novel-single-plot style. Hopefully there's a boxset... that, I can tolerate.As for the characters- I didn't really care much for any of them like I loved the main characters of The Elven. Still, I do want to know what happens so if I can find the next part, I'll probably buy it. Took forever for the plot to develop, seems a shame to quit now.

The story of the Elves continues with new and exciting tales that beg for a sequel. Alfadas is one of the heros of this tale and trolls are the antagonists.

As The Elven was one of the best fantasy novels that i have read in a long time, I was excited when i saw a second come out in the same sites. Unfortunately, Elven Winter just doesn't have the same epic plot advancement. The characters remain rich and wonderful but this book just did not have the epic feel of the first. I will keep reading the series but i certainly hope that the next book will go further and have something more to it.

I read the first book in the series and I absolutely loved it! It spoiled me to the point that any book I read after it just didn't measure up. The characters in this book are just as well thought out as the 1st book but it left a lot of unanswered questions and way too many loose ends floating around for my taste. As my title suggests this book ends way too abruptly. It ends with a character breaking his leg. I tap for the next page, fully expecting a few more chapters, and there was nothing there. The end. For that I'm giving it 3 stars. It's too big of a flaw not to.

A step back in time - wonderful adventure; cliffhanger ending.I can't wait for the next book to be translated. I'm almost tempted to learn to read German!This series was meant to be just a 'fill-in' whilst my favourite authors completed writing their latest novels - I was very pleasantly surprised and have a new author (and translator) in my top-5.

I just got this book, and the recipes looks delicious. However, the writers must have to pay the ink bill for the books as the text is printed on a very thin light gray ink.You know how when your printer toner is almost gone and you're trying to eke out a just a few more pages? that's this book's standard text. It's a real hard read for my aging eyes even in bright light, let alone the kitchen.The pictures are fine and so are the indexes and table of contents. Why they picked this font and color for their main text is a mystery. I may have to go find a 20 year old to read it to me :)

As I began to unpack my mom's things after her death, I found hundreds of letters that she saved from Dad during the war. Surprisingly there were no letters to Dad from her among any of her things which made me wonder why. She had all the letters in chronological order so the very first letter was the day he left for overseas. As I progressed through the letters it became obvious why there were no letters from her, he never received much mail due to being constantly on the move flying around the world.The more I read, the more the words sparked memories from my childhood and extended family. There was an overwhelming tugging that urged me to write the stories down. Writing those stories showed me that it is family dynamics that help build you into the person you become. Good or bad and we all have a little of each. There were 5 kids in the family and all turned out different despite a similar childhood. I was curious to see what I would uncover as I perused through personal encounters of his life.This was a different journey for me since all of my other books are children's picture books. My mind works in simple concepts - writing a grown-up book was a challenge and a thrill.I can't help but think what our Flyboy would say seeing his picture on the cover, "Well ain't that something!"

Through the correspondence of a post-World War II pilot, “Football Flyboy” reconstructs the life of (what I hope the author won’t be offended by me calling) an ordinary man. The author found letters written by her father to her mother while he was stationed at various Asian posts immediately following the end of World War II and has used them as an outline, if you will, to reconstruct his life. It is an interesting effect and coupled with information gleaned from family interviews and first hand knowledge she tells the tale of his life.Again, this is not a football hero or Army Air Corps Ace; Bill “Buster” Cannon was an everyday kind of guy but I think that’s what makes this work. Sometimes it is the everyday people who are the most interesting.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

America is quickly losing the remaining World War II veterans. There has been a lot of interest in collecting their stories. However, most of that interest is focused on the small portion of their lives that was spent in combat with the Axis powers. There isn't as much interest in their births, their formative years, their marriages and families, their post-war jobs, etc.Author Lisa Reinicke has found an interesting way to battle this trend. She obviously cares about the subject of her book – her father. And, of course, she KNOWS there's so much more to him than his service to his country. Ms. Reinicke has collected many of the letters that her father wrote to his young wife during the war, and has augmented them with information about the complete life of First Lt. Bill Cannon – birth, early years, adult years, and death.Occasionally, the connection between the letter and the post-war years is a bit tenuous, to the point of wondering WHY the author chose to attach a particular post-war anecdote to a particular letter. This is the exception, however. When the First Lt. writes about saving money, the author tells about family finances and the now “MISTER” Cannon's attitudes about earning money, spending, and saving.After reading this book, I truly felt I knew Mr. Cannon and his wife, as well as Cannon's sisters and his daughter.RATING: Four Stars.

What a gem. I'm so happy to have come across this story! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just turned 50 and am already one of those that are ranting "God, I miss the good ole' days" and "They just don't make em' like that anymore." I truly miss the days before technology took over our lives, and I appreciate this glimpse into a life with some REAL. I was raised by a very old fashioned southern gentlemen from Alabama and a gentle loving mother from Mississippi, who taught me how to be a good person, old-school style. My parents are now gone, but their lessons will live on forever. A beautiful story with beautiful narration.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

An incredible story about a man who had no idea what he was headed into. This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions from laughing to crying to awwwing. I loved how the author put in her Dad's letters at the beginning of each chapter, it gave me some insight on what his war was like. I also loved the fact that his wife was his everything, and that I got to learn about the wild family members! I could relate to that, even though this was written in a different time!

I LOVE how the author illustrated the relationship between her parents based upon the letters her father wrote. I also enjoyed that she was able to help me feel like I got to know her entire family from her descriptions. Her insight into how her father grew as times changed, and how he became a better man is incredible. It is wonderful to learn how one man can make drastic changes in his life, while instilling principals and values into the lives of his family. Definitely a must read!

This was an outstanding read! Let me first preface this by saying this is not a book of war time heroics. This is a wide open door to the chaos that was the Cannon family.Each chapter began with one or more of the letters home. After, it went on to explain why he wrote what he did and explore his family and his life. What this is, is an amazing snapshot into late 1945 Army Air Corp life! Being active duty myself, I can relate to some of his letters and the frustration (Although we have email and skype which move FAR faster!)I would like to note also the letters being transcribed exactly as written was a phenomenal touch, and about as close to holding the real things as we, the public, can get!Long story short: Read it. You will feel like you've been a family friend for years afterwards. Keep some tissues close, there are some very touching moments. I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't moved to tears in the waiting room...

This book, the story, the way it was told, has stayed with me for a month now. I didn't want it to be over, so I reread portions, have talked with my husband endlessly about it. Hated to finish it and hand it over to him to read. Eric clearly relates to the high country in the way that Randy did, in order to portray him that way. That's what drew me in so quickly and so thoroughly, because that's what the high country does to me. That's how I feel, that's how I sense it, that's how much it is a part of me. I'm no backcountry ranger, and as I age I'm not getting there as much or as far as I'd like, so there is this longing always there. It was so fulfilling to read about Randy's love of the Sierra. (My backcountry is not the Sierra but equally loved). It was haunting the way Randy disappeared and wasn't found for so long. And that was fitting, too. I was grateful for Alden Nash's final theory on what happened to Randy. That made the most sense. This book was absolutely beautiful, bittersweet and heart wrenching. Thank you Backpacker Magazine for the recent list of 10 classics to read. This is one of my all time favorites. Thank you Eric Blehm!

The story itself is interesting and told beautifully. The author has done an amazing job in researching the information and then telling an incredible story of the length to which the brave park ranchers go to in search of injured or sick who visit our parks. This story centers around one park and one missing ranger. For the longest time the reader has no idea what actually took place. Then, finally the answer is revealed. I have tried very hard not to mention what actually took place, as I don't want to spoil the story for anyone else. Well written, well edited, and told by a real story teller, this book has it all. This is nonfiction that will keep you on the edge if your seat.

I saw the segment about this on TLC's Disappeared and found it fascinating so I thought it would be an interesting book to read. Wrong! The author includes every nit picky detail about the main character including quoting 30+ year old letters in detail that have no real bearing on the story. It's hardy an edge of your seat thriller as it's made out to be. Rather, it's a chronicle of everything known about the man that has little or no bearing on the story. I gave up on it as it's just too much needless information that slows the flow of the story down.

Blehm is a great writer, you can see the journalistic skills at work in the level of detail he puts into this story. I wish all such writers took the time to do such thorough research and present all facets of the subject. Ranger Randy was really brought to life, from his interesting childhood growing up in Yosemite, with an nature focused father, who was friends with Muir and others. This carried through to Randy's 28 years as a seasonal Ranger at SEKI, his college years, time in the Peace Corps, climbing in the Himalayas, through decades of marriage. Through the mystery of Randy's disappearance Blehm leaves the reader to judge (or not) the flaws and consequences of this interesting man; one who certainly gave more to the Parks and those who visited than he received, though he himself may have disputed that.

A great book for anyone who loves the outdoors. The story recolves around the mystery of a missing back cou try ranger in Kings Canyon National Park. The background research is phenomenal, and the writinf is so strong you feel lime you know these people. My major criticism is I wish there pictures of the cast of characters. That would have sealed the connection for me. But since it is a true story, maybe so e people disnt want their likeness associated with this trajedy

Great book. Well written. If you like the out doors, hiking, camping, etc, you will like this book. Author tells the story is such a way as to keep you wanting to know more. The ending really sets the book apart and ends the story just perfectly. Makes you want to hit the trails.

Having worked for the National Park Service, I approach any book about the NPS and its people with skepticism. If you're like me, jump into this book without trepidation! It presents a very accurate view of what it's like to work for the NPS and how relationships develop and disintegrate. The basic story is tragic and often left me thinking, "If only...." The ending is not a surprise, but more of a closure.

Great book. I couldn't put it down. Finished it while hiking the High Sierra Trail, which made it even more real. I grew up spending my summers in Cedar Grove with my family while my dad was a front country ranger. I didn't know Randy but knew a number of rangers who did. The book gave me even more appreciation for the rangers out there and the high sierras.

These cards are beautiful! They have a nice weight to them and you can literally feel the art. As in, the gold foiling and some aspects of the pictures are raised. The booklet that comes with the set is helpful except, it doesn't explain what the cards mean if they're upside down. However, a simple Google search will reveal that information. The booklet included also shows and describes how to set the cards up for a personal reading. If I had to make a complaint about the cards, it would just be that the back of the cards are very plain in contrast to the front, but that's not really a big deal.I tried to take as many photos of these as I could to include with my review and I hope they're helpful. I didn't know what to expect, since this is my first set of tarot cards. In the pictures my tarot cards are shown with the Lo Scarabeo Baset bag. I ordered them at the same time. :)For some reason all my photos are showing up tilted to the wrong side. Does anyone know how I can remedy this? Thank you, in advance!

I'm fascinated with the artwork and the golden touch on it!!!Easy to deal and gives amazing readings! It is based on the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck.Great Quality Cards by Lo Scarabeo.

This is the first "contemporary," as in produced in the past 50 years, deck that left me in awe and total in respect of the art that makes the deck be what it is. In actuality, the art itself, the figures and objects on every card, is not intrinsically complicated, they are simple. However, once you combine them with the "gold leaf background," they become spectacular. The cards in my deck came shuffled - initially, I thought this inconvenient, yet as I began to sort them out, I was so entirely drawn into the artwork that it became my pleasure to put them back in order. The depictions, especially in the Major Arcana, are different to usual - in both iconography and in their series of appearance (numbered differently). However, they cover the exact same archetypes as a standard Major Arcana in a usual Tarot Deck. One could characterize the art, characters and objects portrayed, as more simplistic but definitely not lacking the basic elements required to properly read each card. The Minor Arcana is more similar to any other except, of course, of the golden leaf background which, once again, makes each card seem like a jewel - I should note here that the gold leaf is not uniform in it's application on the paper. Rather, it forms shapes, circles, lines or triangular reflections, which enhance both the characters and the objects drawn on each card for interpretation. As I mentioned, there are about 3 cards that are placed in a different order than usual but depict the exact same meaning of the corresponding cards we are used to. The suits of the Minor Arcana remain the same as usual. I haven't had the chance to read through the little booklet that comes with this spectacular deck but I am certain it will touch upon the archetypes and characteristic symbols in a similar way to what we are accustomed - however, there are a few unknown (in the sense of being Egyptian in form) objects in some of the cards which will require an explanation (I am sure those explanations will be covered in the accompanying booklet). Anyway, I predict that this deck will become a collectible item; it is not currently numbered or limited, even though I would suggest that to the manufacturer (Lo Scarabeo out of Italy), even if it is done with every new edition. The version of the "Nefertari's Tarots" deck is offered in a multilingual form here in the States but it is also offered in English/American in Europe. I would strongly suggest that every serious Tarot card reader or Tarot card collector acquire this deck. I doubt readers would use this deck in readings but perhaps they might. I do not read the Tarot professionally (even though I have been its student for nearly 15 years) but I fully intend to periodically use this deck in some of the readings I give to friends just to see the reaction I get. I love The Star, The Lovers, 10 swords, 9 cups, Death, 5 wands, 9 pentacles, 6 swords, 4 swords, 7 cups, 5 cups, and The Sun. Unfortunately thats it. The other cards are not communicating. I like cards that communicate quickly and use color wisely so I can instantly feel the elements. The design was classically Rider Waite on some cards and not on others. If the design was an improvement on Rider Waite communicative design I would understand, but its not unfortunately. The Ace of Cups was totally disappointing along with the 9 of pentacles, The Tower, 4 of pentacles, all of the Aces, Judgement, The Moon, The Hanged Man, The chariot, 9 wands, 8 wands, The Fool, Strength, The Hermit, and The Empress. When the cards are all out in a large spread they all look the same, especially the court cards. I won't be using this deck for readings as I hoped. I still love The Witches Tarot the best by Ellen Dugan. I can read her deck from across the room! I won't throw this deck away or give it away as I do with many decks. I will likely frame The Star card so it wasn't a total loss

I got the deck as promised, but the cards weren't in any type of order which led me to believe someone else had the deck before me.I put the cards in order, cleansed, blessed it to use.Even so, the energy of this deck is very powerful in my opinion. I know many say it is just paper/cardstock or just a tool, but I have always felt entities within the cards themselves. I can't handle it for very long because of the energy, but I am gradually able to handle them more and more each day. Readings are spot on. I don't recommend this deck to a beginner for the simple fact that someone would need to know the meanings of the cards for the most part.Overall, I really do love this deck & am glad I purchased it.

The cards artwork is beautiful but the materials used to make the cards is not durable. These cards are only useful to look at not for use. I purchased this item but the quality of material used makes me want to return both purchases for a refund I prefer decks that wont be worn out fast - this material used will not allow these cards to last Lastly the cards are small. Very narrow and thin, doesn't even feel like real tarot cards Feels more like thin paper like construction paper. I don't want to waste my money like that.
