Very nicely done. I like that much of the book is written about areas of Switzerland that are off the beaten path. It does cover the cities, but it covers the hiking and more remote areas in depth, which is what I am more interested in. I have been to Switzerland 3 times on hiking vacations and I still learned a lot from this book. There are charming inconsistencies in the writing because of the interview format. The information is fairly detailed in all the interviews and there is a general format that is followed. My only criticism is that there are no maps. It would be helpful to have a map at the beginning of each of the general sections. I have the e-book so perhaps there are maps in the conventional book. But it is a very useful book nonetheless.

Full of essays about locals personal experiences. If that is what you are after, perhaps a good read. Otherwise, not a helpful book for planning and forming a decent travel plan to Switzerland.

Purchased as a gift for a family member that was embarking on a 2 year long work assignment that would see them move from the United States to Switzerland.Sometimes it is nice to have a book you can read while drinking coffee, or sitting on a train to look for activities to do rather than use your iPhone or laptop for travel ideas.Family is having a great time checking off things in this book, time will tell if they get a perfect score of 100.

Excellent history about how the Space Transportation System (Shuttle) was created as a follow-up to the Apollo Program. This isn't a technical history but White provides plenty of pertinent details on the challenges faced in building a reusable shuttle under tight budget constraints. White also digs deeper into the connection between the Air Force and the Shuttle Program in the area of design and with the astronauts who migrated from the canceled Manned Orbiting Laboratory over to NASA. These men helped design, test and fly the shuttle through its early years. White also provides some insight on the political side detailing the thought process and support from the Nixon and Carter Administrations. White writes this fascinating history in such a manner that makes it feel more like a Cold War novel than a dry technical story about machines. I started reading it and was so caught up in White's engaging narrative that I stayed up until 4 in the morning to finish it. This is the way history should be written for the general audience. White nailed the facts while making this a story about the amazingly talented and driven people who made the Shuttle a reality.

Excellent. If you love flying, or space subjects, or the Shuttle, or the last quarter of the 20th century, you'll enjoy Into The Black. Written with authority by a man who love flying, the book details (and it is detailed) the intricacies of building Earth's first reusable spacecraft system, a historical journey off planet which heralded the arrival of the Space Age as a viable, doable concept. Even if you followed the newspapers and TV coverage of the entire Shuttle era, you never knew much of what really went on behind the scenes of one of civilization's crowning achievements. This book is a wonderful read and an exciting reveal of the Shuttle and it's political backdrop, much of which remained under wraps until now.

We aerospace enthusiasts have all read most of the details of the Space Shuttle. This book goes beyond. The author has used a number of recently declassified documents to portray the true story of how the Shuttle program actually went from idealistic dreaming, to reality, to production, and then to actual flight.I enjoyed the whole thing. The authors portrayal of the astronauts involved is fascinating.

If you want a look at the black world and connection to the shuttle program, then you need to read into the black. Lots of wonderful information here. Will make you proud of NASA, air force and the not. Real good look at what it took to make projects work. Lot of great people in the service of the it country. Once you start book, you have to finish it before putting it down. Mr white did a great job on this book. Thanks!!!!

This is really the first book that I have read about the begining and development of the STS, culminating with the launch of STS-1. It was well written and engaged you with its various people that were involved. Only dipped a little with some of the political battles in its creation. Stayed mostly on the engineering and operational side. The only other books that I have seen on this topic is the NASA Mission Reports.

Excellent book about the development of the Space Shuttle and the first flight of the Columbia.I thought that I knew everything about the Shuttle program. This book has information which I didn't know.Just get it.In closing, though, it is sad that the loss of the Columbia in 2003 led to the end of the Shuttle program and left us dependent upon the Russians for manned access to space. The Shuttle fleet was retired too early, as the Orbiters each had about two thirds of their designed life left (the STS was designed to be reusable for at least 100 flight's per Orbiter. Each Orbiter averaged only 30-odd missions. There was no reason to end the program early!)

This is one great book. It's a history book with tons of adventure woven in. You get a real sense for the test pilots turned astronauts and the colossal achievement building and flying the space shuttle was. From her bleeding edge main engines to airplane spaceships for the 1930s, this is a marvelous piece of romanticism with something for all dreamers.

This book was a joy to read. I have an interest in flight as a pilot and space flight is an easy place to find amazement and excitement. Mr. White made this historical review into a riveting story that was stranger than fiction. While not as "glamorous" as Apollo 13, this was no less exciting and filled with a willingness to overcome obstacles well before the first flight even occurred. If you're interested in the Space Shuttle program, this is THE book to start with.If only all books written on history could be done as deftly, we'd all be historians!

OVER half of the cards are just Explain this and Explain that. It is not a Flashcard Study. If you think you are getting all examples and explanations this is not what we expected!

This packet does not have vocabulary flashcards.

Pretty helpful for studying for the ssat but most of the stuff on the flashcards was not on the test.

The ISEE flashcard system worked great; my child's scores increased over the SSAT scores. This system will be useful as a refresher for any other standardized testing systems.

We liked the selection of practice problems for the SSAT and the explanation accompanying the answers.

Many type errors. It is not worthy for the money. My son didn't like it and would like to return it.

It is one of the best ways I have found to help students with passing the ISEE entrance exam. It is a fantastic study skills program.

I work as a private tutor and test preparation materials are really important, so I thought I would share a critical review of this product. First of all, the questions in the product are fine. They are topically correct and I have not noticed any misprintings or serious typos. The explanations for the answers are also adequate.However, this book deviates from the way the official SSAT test review book is laid out. Furthermore, there are no time guidelines in this book: to find out how long each test is you must consult the official SSAT test prep book. Additionally, the sections of the verbal and reading comprehension occur in the wrong order in this book, and the publishers of this book do not provide an answer sheet. Thus the student cannot actually practice bubbling in answers.For some this may not be a big deal, but the point about standardized testing is to get good at standardized testing. I think the publishers of this book would do well to provide two test sheets along with their tests, to give timing guidelines, scoring guidelines and to make their product LOOK like an actual SSAT test. I therefore recommend it for practice questions, but not much else.

The weaving of characters around the central character of the mayor is very well done. In my opinion, this novel is well-written. But the themes are mundane, bodering upon trivial. That is, there is little here that isn't experienced by average people in their daily lives. I believe the "domestic" woman reader would prefer its homey charm, but for me it often verged upon boring.

My Current Favorite Author. This author writes with a great deal of insight and empathy without being maudlin or unbelievable. AND, she's witty and intelligent. I recommend reading everything she has written (non-paid endorsement)! I'd add that she might especially appeal to adolescent girls and young women, who might be struggling with their own "life issues." I found Ms. Toews particularly "in touch with" the emotional lives of children. Her writing style is engaging and not pretentious.

I love Miriam Toews books. I'm finding this audio book a little harder to get into. I'm not sure if it's just me but I am struggling with the voice of the reader. I will keep persevering and it will undoubtedly get better.

After her father’s heart attack, single mom, Knute and her four-year-old daughter move back to the small town of Algren, Manitoba to help her mother look after him. It’s not a bad move for Knute, as not much has gone well for her in Winnipeg. Meanwhile, Algren’s mayor, Hosea Funk, is determined to win praise and acknowledgement for Algren as Canada’s official smallest town. The winner will receive a visit from the prime minister. Due to his mother’s death bed comment, Hosea believes the man is his father. The trouble is, people keep moving to and dying in Algren, which causes Hosea no end of trouble to maintain the crucial population number of 1,500.A Boy of Good Breeding is a lovely, light look at family and unfulfilled dreams. Setting is key to this story, and the eccentric characters are funny and entertaining. Hosea’s a little over the top, but I found myself sympathizing with his odd quest. If you’re looking for a fun, light Canadian story, then this is a great choice.

Tom, her father, is depressed and declining and her mother has embarked on manic house renovations, accompanied by stories of other people's personal disasters.Hosea, Tom's best friend since boyhood, is preoccupied with a secret project - winning the prime minister's visit to celebrate Algren's designation as Canada's smallest town. To gain this distinction, the town's population must be 1,500 - one more and some other town may win, one less and Algren is demoted to village status.Anticipating success, Hosea hires Knute as his assistant though he can't, at least at first, find much for her to do but rid the town of a recalcitrant mutt. His days are taken up with regulating the population - visiting the hospital to check on the maternity ward and the dying, tallying up those who move in and out, fretting.Then Max - Summer Feelin's feckless father - comes back to town. And Hosea is on the brink of losing Lorna, the love of his 50-year-old life, because he daren't let her move in with him before the population count and he can't tell her why. 5 sad little issues for 22.95? This is a blatant cash grab by DC.I buy almost all of my comics from Amazon. I don't read trade magazines or websites about the industry. I tend to follow writers and just buy what they put out. I've been burned many times by DC and Marvel when they have an author on the cover but he/she only has written one issue (Marvel loves doing this with Bendis). Once again, the DC money collectors have struck again. Less than half of this was written by Snyder.I've written about Synder in other reviews, so I'll briefly summarize. His superlative early work on American Vampire led to the Batman gig. His first few volumes were quite good, but they faded a bit over time (it also suffered when compared to Geoff Johns Batman: Earth One, which is my favorite Batman of the 21st century). Fans seem to love issues 51 and 52. The topic of 51 is ambitious and could be interesting if handled better. It is a slapdash way of explaining Batman's eternal age of 35 since 1939 (it should be flushed out as it's own book by a writer who has really thought it out). Issue 52 is clearly the highlight of this though. It is decent, nothing more.I am looking forward to Tom King taking over. He's a great new writer. His work on Vision, Omega Men and the Sheriff of Babylon was inspired.

I'll be honest, I wasn't thrilled that this volume was coming into print. I'm convinced that DC stretched its arguably strongest title out two extra volumes to make money. The Justice League New 52 title was wrapped up in 8 volumes with 50 issues. Batman New 52 finished a bit stronger with 52 issues in 10 volumes. Can you spot the difference? Endgame was an ideal, cohesive, length of story. Superheavy was where I could tell they were milking us a bit. Volume 9 would have been the logical place to conclude, but here we are with volume 10, hailed as the concluding chapter to Capullo and Snyder's run on Batman. With that irksome rant out of the way, let's look at what this volume is as a stand alone volume. Because despite all that nonsense above, I actually really enjoyed Epilogue.Right off the bat (pun intended), here's the worst quality of this volume: the fact that it is labeled the final Capullo and Snyder Batman. There is only one issue (51) that is drawn and written by Capullo and Snyder, respectively. The issue is fantastic, and very symmetric to their first issue, and would have been a fitting concluding issue to finish the series on. Both artist and writer do their legacy and reputation proud, and while not delivering a climactic ending to their Batman, a satisfying work is delivered. Despite the finality of this issue, it is followed by issue 52, the REAL last issue. However, the final two issues are different enough where they both work and are respectful of their placement. Batman's final New 52 adventure deserved two finishing acts, and these issues work well together to accomplish this.Before these issues are the Future's End Batman issue and the 4th Batman annual. The FE issue is surprisingly good; I had never read the original issue and decided to skip out on the series, so it was a pleasant surprise to find its inclusion. The annual is okay, and probably the least memorable part of this volume. The art is okay, and the story likewise acceptable, but nothing to write home about.The final chapter is actually the first issue of the Batman: Rebirth title. I must say, I was unsure if I would follow the series as closely with the major talent switch, but this issue forced me to reconsider. The story was engaging, the art fantastic, and most importantly, very Batman-feeling. It's worth reading, even if not in this collection.Overall, this was a good volume of Batman New 52. I thought volume 6 was going to be the weakest volume of the series, until I saw what this volume was to include. Surprisingly, however, volume 6 remained the weakest, with volume 10 delivering some very solid reading. Am I still a little disappointed that DC stretched out this title? Yes. Do I have any buyer's remorse? No. I'm glad I bought this book. Maybe it would be wise to wait for the price to drop a bit, or get the TPB, but this collection is worth having. Capullo and Snyder's final work is unquestionably fantastic, and the primary reason I purchased this book. The rest of the issues being as good as they are was an added bonus. As a stand-alone volume, it's strong and enjoyable. The fact that each chapter wraps itself up nicely is a nice change of pace from the multi-issue arcs we are used to seeing. If you only want the final Capullo and Snyder issue, it would probably make more sense just to buy the single issue. If you want to conclude your New 52 Batman title, then you won't be disappointed.

Item came in GREAT condition. I wasn't as compelled by the stories.

Instead of putting the final Snyder / Capullo Batman issue, #51, in the last volume, it's stuffed in here alongside a one shot, an annual, and a "preview" of Batman Rebirth #1. This makes for a mixed bag of reading.The one-shot is from "Future's End", a DC crossover from what seems like years ago. Bruce as Batman infiltrates a Lex Luthor facility sometime in what seems like an alternate continuity. While it's not bad as a story, it's the most out of place story in this volume.Next is a Batman annual with Bruce returning to Wayne Manor after it housed Arkham inmates for awhile in his absence. This is actually a pretty decent issue written by Tynion, that features Bruce having to outwit Riddler, Clayface and Freeze out of costume.Next is the last Snyder / Capullo Batman issue, #51 of the run that started with the New 52 relaunch. It's set on a night where not much is happening in Gotham besides a power outage. This is still a great issue, that features call backs to earlier stories in the run.#52 is a bit of a forgettable issue, with Batman going up against a new villain. It's too bad scheduling probably made it so Snyder / Capullo didn't have anything to do with this final issue of the New 52 series.Last is the "preview" of the Rebirth issue. I don't know why they didn't just publish the whole thing here. What is here is pretty good.This probably has more in common with the "Graveyard Shift" volume of cleaning up of stories that didn't fit anywhere else. Disappointing, but as a completist, I'm glad to have the last Snyder / Capullo issue. I just wish I hadn't trade-waited it in this case.

A somewhat short collection of stories intended to serve as a... denouement of sorts. By which I mean that it has the usual ups and downs, but less so. A very emotional chapter after the colder Batman we've seen elsewhere in the Snyder run.
