I liked her active and positive approach of everything she comes across in her life. Sophia is a smart woman with great friends, but something is missing and she hopes she'll find it some day. She truly cares about people and Sophia's friends are people she genuinely likes, it doesn't matter where they're from, how old they are or how much money they make. That's an admirable character trait and I loved how Zoe May combines this down to earth attitude with the extravagance of wealthy London. I couldn't wait to find out how Sophia would respond to that big change and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to see if she'd get her happily ever after.Zoe May has a great witty writing style that's very easy to read and I flew through the pages of Perfect Match, I just couldn't put it down. She effortlessly describes uncomfortable situations and the result is quirky, cute and amusing. Love is full of surprises and Zoe May knows exactly how to present them, which is one of the key reasons why Perfect Match is such a great story. She skillfully uses the precise right reactions to her advantage and the result is a creative and crazy story that made me laugh many times. Perfect Match is entertaining, charming and romantic. I really enjoyed reading this amazing feelgood book.
Perfect Match was one of those special books that ticks all my boxes to make it a 5-star read. It was sweet, funny, and had great characters!!!!Sophia has become an expert at online dating yet she can’t seem to find the right guy. In fact, she seems to find all the wrong guys. One night she and her friend, Kate, come up with a dating profile on a new site, Dream Dates, just for fun and some alcohol was involved. You can only imagine...just know it involves a lot of laughs. When she gets a message from a guy who seems to be everything she was dreaming of, she isn’t quite sure if he is the real thing. Thus, begins Sophia’s journey to find her “perfect†man, but she will also go on a journey to discover who she really is.This was a very different romance for me in that the writer, May, kept me guessing. That really isn’t something I see much in the genre...I loved it! She gave me some twists and turns. I always like when a book also has a deeper story as well. Sophia has a deeper story to tell us. She has a perception about how things should be, and she learns things aren’t always what they appear to be. She learns some really important life lessons, and she does it with such a sense of humor. I know you will come to love her as much as I did!!!!I know I’m leaving her possible love interests out of this review, but they are a huge part of the story. I don’t want to ruin a thing because that part of the story is what made this such a great book!!!!I love when a book surprises me, and this one certainly did that!!!! You can’t go wrong with this romantic comedy!!!! It’s one of my favorites of 2019!!!
This book really grew on me. At first I started reading it because I had just finished a psychological thriller and wanted to read something more light-hearted. I didn’t know if there’d be much depth or maturity to the story because when the story first starts out, there’s quite a bit of crude language and the ad Sophia puts out as a joke is pretty outlandish.However, the more I got to know Sophia, the more I realized how likable she is and that she really does have a good heart and relatable dreams. There are different red flags that arise for Sophia with the rich boyfriend, which made me feel like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. I wanted to say, “Molly, you in danger girl.†But I wasn’t sure how deep my concerns should be, so I patiently followed along and braced myself.If you’re a fan of rom-coms, you’ll most likely see how this story is going to go early on in the book. Without giving anything away, I’ll say that it’s a well-rounded take on a familiar tale. There are enjoyable supporting characters and a full representation of who Sophia is and the importance of her journey. The most important love story told here, though, is the love Sophia finds for herself as she discovers who she really is and what makes her tick. As a side note, as an American, I like reading books set in England because I like seeing the different colloquialisms.For those who weigh in these factors, there is plenty of colorful language (though I feel like it mellows out as the novel progresses), but no graphic sex.
Exposing a character's internal personality, (not always what shows on the outside) is a tough but vital job of every author. Zoe accomplished this very well, especially with the rich boyfriend. What you see isn't what you get - warning to all - and well illustrated in this novel. Nice job with all the character's true selves. I enjoyed this book.
I don't often read romantic comedies but I thought I'd give this one a try because I too am online dating and I thought I might find it relatable. I was right! This book is hilarious but also touches on some serious themes, and is such an accurate depiction of what it is like living in your twenties today, particularly if you are single. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to laugh and wants to know they're not alone in the online dating world. I look forward to future books by this author.
