Whew. If you’re a Christian and you’re ready to challenge yourself, this is the right bible study for you.Francis Chan pulls no punches when discussing how Christians should behave in support of their faith. The lessons are digested through a trifecta of methods: reading the book, answering the questions in the workbook, and watching the YouTube videos. The combination of these sole activities when brought together with another person or small group, is impactful and good for the soul. The lessons are difficult and thought provoking. Anyone looking to take their faith to the next level should read this book and do the lessons in the workbook.I first read this book when I was a new Christian and only made it halfway through. I was still misunderstanding that you had to measure up in order to be saved by Christ. Now that I have grown to understand that we are saved by God’s grace and changed by our faith in Christ and able to speak and act because the Holy Spirit is in us, I was able to complete the study.This is still one of the hardest bible studies I have done and one that I intend to do again and again until I feel, inside, that I measure up to the Christian I want to be.
I lead a small group at our church and we used this book to conduct a group study. It was a very intriguing study that was extremely challenging. I really enjoyed Francis Chan's treatment of a difficult subject - realizing how much God loves us and the response that should elicit from us as Christians.Even though the book itself was great for use in a group study, I did not find the workbook to be that helpful. The questions in the workbook were only okay. They weren't very deep and seemed to only scratch the surface of what was learned in the reading.In short, I would highly recommend "Crazy Love", but given the choice I would skip on the workbook.
I read the book. I got the workbook and read the original book again. The work book really went to my core. It has made me think that I honestly need to prioritize my daily routine.Some of the questions hurt but when all is finished all is finished, it leaves me in no doubt about where I need to change my life.
Our Accountability group was getting a little off track and decided to do a study of Crazy Love. I ordered the books for every body and this work book for me. It was evident after a couple of weeks that every one should have the work book as well because it made the book, which is very good, come alive with thought provoking insights and probing, revealing questions of what was in your heart. Needless to say ordered the work books for every body as well and are going to start over from chapter one.
Love the devotion in Bible App of this book. Love Francis, but this is not a stand alone book in my humble opinion.
The book gets 5 stars hands down. This workbook is good if you really want to torture yourself. Chan is very convicting in his book. If you don't get the 2x4 over the head, you're not ready for this study. The workbook is just another way Chan slaps your ego around. For me out was too much. The book alone was enough.
This is a very challenging course for all of us who feel settled in the Church, and then Francis meddles with us by using the Bible and shared experiences to cause us to question, 'Am I where I think I am with God?" Very good discussions, deep soul searching, angers and defensive responses, and true growth in our faith in God. As a group, amazing intimacy is being formed as we share around his questions. Thank you Francis, you are a gift. I only wished the video portions were longer, they are that good.
I ended up ordering the Crazy Love books for my college and career class. These workbooks had very little meat to them and kept referring to Chan's book. Why bother? Kind of boring, too. We love the book itself (has short, easy-to-read chapters) and the DVD.
