His expertise and experience with management, ownership, customer service, sales and marketing in the business world and self storage is clearly evident in his writings. Marc has learned about self storage and marketing from real life experiences and his street smarts continue to expand everyday. After reading hundreds of marketing books full of general theory he decided it was time to put his experiences from the trenches into a book for self storage owners and managers. I'm an owner in 2 facilities & have been working through this book recently. I highly recommend it! It is practical & insightful. I've been in the storage business for 7 years & can confidently say that this book is a must-read for storage owners/operators. I love the way it is broken down into "bite-size" segments. You don't have to accomplish it all at once. You just keep moving forward one day at a time.Really helpful!
I loved this book! It was full of useful information covering everything from sales, marketing, customer service and simple tips. It is written in a way that engages you as you are reading it. It inspires you to start implementing his suggestions. It is a reference book that I will read it over and over again. Thank you for writing it.
If you're considering venturing in to self storage you must read this - informative, simple, funny, and extremely helpful. If you can't succeed after reading this book, you can't succeed.

I didn't care for this book. I thought it would be a book of time tested principles and operating practices. I thought it would help you navigate the dangerous waters of liability, leasing policy, answering tough questions, saving money on insurance and operating costs, etc. Instead it can be summed up in one word- "marketing". They could say do a lot of creative marketing and this would suffice. I took marketing in college and in this case it didn't help me. In fact they recommend you do things I would never do. One that comes to mind is to set up a college fund to give away for a local high school student each year, in hopes to gain community publicity. Well, it doesn't sit well with me. I don't think that would create demand. The book acts like you actually create demand for self storage. In my opinion when someone needs a place to put stuff, that creates demand. You can market all day long to a guy with a house and barn out back and he's just not going to yield to the catchy ads and move his barn out into your storage facility. You can't make people think they need self storage when they don't. The best way marketing can serve a storage facility is simply by making it possible for consumers to find you and be aware of you. But we live in a day and age where consumer behavior is savvy and they know how to find what they want and will seek it out. That's my opinion. Always a risk, giving honest feedback about a book generally brings out the haters who disagree- particularly the author. So for my purposes and my background, the book isn't for me. If you havn't a clue how to do marketing, maybe it would be for you. But the ideas presented in the book are so down right boring and basic, I can't help but wonder who would be so incompetent as to actually need this book. And for those who take personal offense because I didn't like the book, you are certainly welcome to your opinion as long as you respect mine.

I am a self storage manager and bought this book to learn more on how to market my facility. It's full of wonderful ways to get not only more rentals but friends as well. I have 35 other storage facilities within a 5 mile range and needed all the help I could get. If I could have given it 10 stars I would have. It's a must have tool in todays market. I don't plan on sharing it with my competition however.Shelly Mowatt
