--------------------SPOILERS---------------------------This is going to be a difficult review to write. I absolutely loved the idea of the Chronos story. However, I was left disappointed and a bit upset with the ending of this book. I feel like I have been constantly let down with the history of Kiernan and Kate's romance. You start off reading the first book and when Kate touches the key, she sees Kiernan in a field (I believe she described him as looking upset) and then they are kissing. Then she sees him on the subway train and he kisses her while describing his touch as being somewhat electrifying. If I were Kate, I would be obsessed with finding out who he was and the details of our relationship. If a beautiful stranger kissed me and said that it wasn't our first kiss, I would want to know all about when our first kiss was. Therefore, I waited through the books 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 hoping to hear about that history. It never happens. Instead Trey is the love interest which I agree with other reviewers that it is a very immature and superficial. I could have done without Trey completely because their relationship never had any depth. I thought he was kind and sweet, but he was really lacking in vibrancy. Kiernan was by far the most interesting character, and for some reason that makes no sense to me, Kate was really mean to him. Why on earth was she always so mean to him? Especially after she spent the day with young Kiernan, who was by far the most adorable character. Then I just don't understand all the scenes where she did kiss Kiernan. It wasn't right to be constantly leading him on. I still don't understand why it ended the way that it did. I would have liked to have no Trey in the story, but I think other Kate would be interesting to keep. It could have been a love battle between old Kate, current Kate, and Kiernan. I also don't understand why Kiernan couldn't have stayed in the future like Simon did. If there would be another novella, say a 0.5, describing other Kate and Kiernan's relationship that covers their first kiss and the reason for why Kiernan was upset in that field, then I would have some closure and a new outlook on the series.
I have some hard time understanding how can the first book be so outstanding comparing to this one. I felt cheated I invested my money in every chronos file series and read them all I was looking forward for an ending that will leave me some level of satisfaction, but instead I got frustrated. I have been postponing to leave a review since October I thought it wasn't worth to bother with my time. Anyway, as soon as the book came on the kindle version I bought it and read it in couple days. Once I figure it out the ending I had to push myself to finish the book.I don't believe the amazon reviews are accurate. After October I remember I read way more one star reviews. Save your time and money this is the worst ending ever!!!
I LOVED the first book, was okay with the second, and was really looking for this book to bring it all home. I even pre-ordered it. But, combine the confusing plot line and multiple time jumps of this book with the unbelievable rule breaking made this book an eye-roller.The CHRONOS rules are broken again and again. And the author commits a MAJOR no no by her own books' rules when she brings in another character that shouldn't/couldn't/wouldn't even be there. I understand why she did it, but...So, as disappointed as I am by this book, I will read any new books by this author because I do enjoy her writing style and her imagination.
This review is more for the whole series. I read the first book in the series because it was free on prime and had good reviews. It wasn't the worst book I'd read but ended very abruptly. Of course they had me then because I wanted to find out what happens in the series but of course the story was dragged out and had an extremely disappointing ending after reading these boring books for days. My two main issues with the books are the protagonist is constantly whining and talking about her boyfriend for large swaths of the books and the many many holes in the explanation of time travel. (Spoiler Alert if you haven't read the book) If someone can explain why the hell Kate doesn't just kill Saul when he first comes back in time this book would be over in the first few chapters! Why go through all the trouble and not even solve the whole conflict? Two stars for the effort but you can find better series out there.
I won this ebook during a giveaway, but had read both previous novels and the two novellas already. I could not see how Ms. Walker was going to be able to end this series and keep her readers happy. It just did not seem possible to achieve this and not upset half of her readers no matter how she concluded the series. But I must say, she followed a complex, yet somehow easy to follow plot and in my opinion was able to give the book a much different ending (in a good way!) then I ever saw coming. There didn't seem to be any fluff or filler in the book, and she kept me up extremely late reading the book, as I simply could not put it down! I am so happy to know that even though Rysa Walker has stated this is the end of the series for her, that the books are in the kindle world, and some other authors have already picked up the gauntlet and continued on with what I hope are the characters we have all come to know and love! This gives me great comfort, because if other readers are anything like me, I will not be pining away wondering what other adventures my friends might have gotten into, because their life and world will live on through other writers!I think she is an extremely remarkable writer I cannot wait to see where her other works will lead us. I just don't see how anyone can go wrong by picking this book up. It is worth every penny.
